A collection of the meals eaten by a group of three university students.

Home alone

Name : Medium rare cooked steak

Price : $14.50

Ingredients : Steak, Salad and Chips

Commentary : Well it's a Sunday and obviously there's no uni, but there was work to be done. Woke up and found myself home alone with the parents and siblings out. I decided to head out local and get some take-away steak as I was in dire need for food. The steak was pretty filling as it had 2 pieces, it also came with salad and chips. The steak was mediocre as I think they put in too much mayonnaise on the salad and too much gravy on the steak. Overall I think it's decent for its price as it is very filling and enough to get you through a half a days worth of studying

State Library. The extension of all universities.

Name: Tuna sandwich-to-be
Price: :$2 for the gum. The rest was from the pantry at home.
Main ingredients: bread, tuna, muesli bar, gum.
Additional Commentary:
While it is Sunday and everyone is supposedly relaxing, I'm here in the NSW State Library doing more uni work. It is actually at a great location and many restaurants are nearby. However, this is the Sydney CBD; everything here is priced for the businessmen or tourists with lots of cash to throw around. I have to be smart so I brought a serving of tuna (in a satchet!) and two slices of bread. Also have a muesli bar for "dessert" and gum to get rid of that tuna smell.

Tomato sauce, its optional!

Food: Home-made Shepards Pie
Price: priceless
Ingredients:
Meat pie: pastry & minced meat

Mashed potatoes: Potato, cheese, ham & pineapple.
Commentary:
Not quite your typical shepards pie - in fact, not even a shepards pie at all. Basically I just grabbed a pie from the kitchen table and slapped some of my sister's home-made mashed potato onto a plate, and violà! It is quite the lunch, as the textures of both the pie and the potato meets, and just melts in your mouth.
Aside from the taste, this meal is also very easy to make and doesn't cost anything at all! To demonstrate how simple and cost-efficient it is, ill even provide a 3-step process in achieving such a fantastic meal:

1. Get your sibling to make some mashed potato
2. Wait until someone leaves a pie on the kitchen table
3. Put the pie onto a plate and get some of that mashed potato

And that is all, enjoy!

Open on a saturday?!

Food: Beef Kebab - without the lot
Cost: $7.50
Main Ingredients: A thin bread wrapped around beef, lettuce, tomato, onion and bbq & garlic sauce.
Commentary:
Just like any other day at university - studying and working in the library, except it's a saturday! And being lazy me, instead of going to the Macquarie Centre, where there is a larger variety of food, I decide to check out the university food court. To my surprise, they were open, so I grabbed myself a beef kebab.

Though the kebab isn't the best I've had, it is still one of my favourite choices at the university food court. Usually I would order a kebab with the lot, which includes tabouli and cheese, but today I was a little short on coins as it is an additional dollar.  Also you could choose to get chicken meat instead of beef, or even a mixed kebab which consists of both types of meat.

Sausage Sizzle!

Name: Sausage Sandwich
Main ingredients: sausage, bread roll, and BBQ sauce
Price: $Free!
Commentary:

Yes, the image is a cartoon. While we were too busy enjoying the free sausage sizzle hosted by Student Flights @ Macquarie University, we forgot to take a photo of it! So here's a cartoon instead for visual representation purposes (taken from shutterstock.com). Besides, I'm sure we all know what a sausage sandwich looks like.

One of the best things in Macquarie University are the clubs/societies/other institutions that rotationally host free sausage sizzles (or other food). Nothing special about the sausage, except for the fact that it's FREE! It got me full enough to refrain from spending until I got home. It also came with a free can of drink!

And the extra special thing about it is that it also came with a FREE IPHONE 4 CASE! (see picture).

Variety needed

Food: Medium Whopper meal

Cost: $7.50 - Medium

Main ingredients : Potato chips, a burger bun, meat patty, lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise, cucumber

Commentary: Looking for cheap food? then I guess the only option will be having fast food. Although not the healthiest option for around 7 bucks you pretty much get a whole meal including a drink which i think is a pretty decent price. So what do you do when you're looking for a cheap meal and feeling a bit greasy? Fast food of course

Sweet treat that kept my blood sugar high!

Food: Cupcakes!
Price: FREEEEEEE
Ingredients: flour, flavoured icing and hundreds & thousands
Commentary:
Well it isn't exactly free, it just happened to be on the kitchen table when I was looking for a treat - and you know what they say? finder's keepers, losers weepers! :D
These cupcakes were pretty enticing, with its vibrant colours on the well-lit kitchen table and they tasted like RAINBOWS! Maybe not quite, but they were quite a treat, each colour a different flavour; black was milk chocolate, white was white chocolate, pink was strawberry and last but not least, blue was BLUE flavoured (yeah I had no idea :p).

Tacos for lunch

Name: Chicken taco
Price: $4.80
Main ingredients: taco shell ( corn chips), chicken, sour cream, sweet chili sauce, lettuce.

With faith in the saying, "you are what you eat", I decided to have tacos for lunch, hoping that it will somehow improve my Spanish and make up for the previous class that I had missed.

The price is relatively cheap as compared to how much other dishes are, which is mainly why I decided to try it. However, there seem to have been more sour cream sauce than anything else in the shell. I think it should've been called "sour cream taco with occasional bits of chicken"

What you grab when your classes finish early

Food : Chicken Caesar salad from Macquarie uni's food court

Cost : $8:50 - Large

Main ingredients : Lettuce, mayonnaise, chicken and boiled eggs

Commentary : Well your choices of foods are limited while you're trying to limit your carbohydrate intake to as low as possible which involves cutting out rice/bread and pasta. Although not the cheapest option it's still a decent meal for those looking to pick up a quick lunch for those who are looking to eat healthy or for those looking for a quick lunch

A quick lunch

Food: Medium Big Mac Meal - McDonald's
Cost: $5.95 - lunch special
Main Ingredients: Bread, beef patties, lettuce, cheese and pickles with a side of fries and a coke.
Commentary:
Well it goes without saying that maccas isn't the healthiest of choices, but it cannot be denied that it is one of the most convenient options available. So whenever I'm indecisive, quite often I would end up at maccas for a quick breakfast, lunch or dinner.
